Overview of Level 3
In their third year of studies many students have already completed their IELTS exam or will do this. As the students are undertaking their first academic units from Australia the focus of the English in the programme shirts more to English for Academic Purpose with training especially in Academic Reading and writing skills and prepared for visiting academic lectures. The assignments set in the third year have a greater emphasis on academic skills including academic speaking and presentations.
In the first semester of the programme students participate in a Professional Communication Course with foundation teacher support in teaching vocabulary and later tutoring students with the course and assessing their presentation skills and essay writing skills at an tertiary level.
In the second semester students undertake further studies with the Legal Frameworks Course this time the school employs a Local Tutor who is qualified in Law from Hefei and is bilingual. The foundation teachers offer informal support to the students.
During their final semester students are preparing their visa documents with the support of the Chinese staff. During this time many students seek advice and support from the foundation teachers concerning the issues and practicalities of living abroad so some lesson during this time focus on these issue. Often at this stage of the course third year students feel a special bond with classmates and their foundation teacher as they know soon they will be living in Australia with the many adjustments they need for this experience.
