What happens with our practice speaking tests?
After completing the exam week we conduct practice speaking tests where each student in the programme has an opportunity to be interviewed by one of the foundation teachers (usually their class teacher) in an simulated test environment.
During the semester the speaking test coordinator collects materials and topics covered by the various foundation and uses this material to create authentic ILETS Style questions to use in the exam. Just before the test begins we post a range of questions on a notice board and tell students questions will be selected from these in their interview.
Usually in Level 1 we focus on the first part of the IELTS interview with a shortened interview of 5 minutes and from semester 2 students will also have some long turn questions with some basic rounding questions with an 8 to 10 minute interview.
By the time the students are in Level 2 they are given full length IELTS interviews which simulate the
1) Introduction and short answer questions on some basic topics
2) A long-turn where a topic is given for a short speech on a personal topic
3) A two-way discussion is given about general topics related to part twi.
At the end of the interview the foundation teacher will evaluate the students’ performance and give some feedback and suggestions for further improvement.
Soon some other materials will be added to this website to assist you. For speaking however the best way to improve this is through practice with a native speaker,so of course coming to class would be very helpful for you.
